Vanessa Riley's Research

Turbulence marked the Regency Period in England and her colonies (West Indies, South Africa, and India). The British monarchy fought the peoples of the Peninsula and amongst themselves. The church wrestled with heresy as the worshipers warred with new methods of praise and fellowship. Humanity struggled with the resentment of the classes, the rise of new industries, and the decline of tried and true trades. People battled addiction, all manner of vice, and the need to discover their better angels. The blight of slavery raged. Through it all, people survived and found ways to thrive, even when they were of a marginalized race and sex. This is my effort to fight the Patriarchy. This time needs to be studied. Stories of triumph need to be recorded. We need to interact with readers, talk about the importance of our history, our sisterhoods, and our collective power as a people.
